Meet the teacher… Katie

Katie has been involved with LAMDA and Dramatic Arts since the age of 5, consistently taking examinations throughout her school career. Having decided to pursue a career in the arts, she went on to achieve a masters degree in theatre directing at East 15 Acting School, and has been directing in London theatres ever since. Katie went on to set up Fusion Theatre Company, a company that specialises in developing theatrical shows, and interactive workshops for schools, using drama as a tool to deliver curriculum topics. Throughout her career, Katie has consistently taught LAMDA within schools and led workshops with organisations such as Watford Palace Theatre and The British Museum and is a firm believer in the benefits and life skills that the LAMDA syllabus provides.

Favourite Playwrights: William Shakespeare, Jez Butterworth, Mark Ravenhill & Friedrich Dürrenmatt.

Favourite Authors: I love fantasy writers! J.K Rowling, Neil Gaiman, J.R.R Tolkien, Roald Dahl, David Walliams & Philip Pullman.

Favourite Poets: Rudyard Kipling, Rupert Brooke, Dylan Thomas, & Virginia Woolf.

Favourite Children’s Books: Secretly, all children’s books are still my favourite, but if I had to choose a few, I would say, Harry Potter, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, The Midnight Gang and Northern Lights.

First Dramatic Moment: When I was around 6, my mum took me to see “Crazy for You” in the West End, and we sat on the front row. Lucky girl! I was mesmerised the whole way through, so close to the action, sitting right on the edge of my seat. In the closing number, the lead performer danced across the stage, singing his heart out, kneeled down on the side of the stage to sing the last words, “I’m crazy for you” and pointed at ME! I was elated and amazed. It took my breath away. It was that very moment that I knew I wanted to be in the arts.
